“Biofuel”: EU destroys 700,000 hectares of rainforest
Dear friends of the rainforests,
Every year, 1.9 million tons of palm oil is blended into “biodiesel” in the EU. To produce this oil, 700,000 hectares of rainforest were clear-cut for plantations in Southeast Asia. Motorists have no alternative to the harmful palm oil due to statutory blending quotas.
However, the European Parliament is in a position to stop this insanity, and its members are currently reviewing changes to the EU’s biofuels policy. Time is running out, as the proposal will be put to a vote in a plenary session on September 11.
Rainforest Rescue has already collected nearly 120,000 signatures in its campaign against biofuels. Please support our petition to the EU with your signature now.
Thanks for being involved, Reinhard Behrend Rainforest Rescue (Rettet den Regenwald e.V.) |
