Have your say: EU consultation on “simplifying” environmental laws

Aug 27, 2025The European Commission intends to dilute laws protecting the environment and nature to “regain competitiveness and unleash growth.” To gather public opinion, it has launched an online consultation open to all citizens. Please participate and tell the EU why strong environmental laws are essential.

The European Commission is inviting all citizens to share their views through a public online consultation. It concerns a planned “simplification” of the laws protecting the environment and nature across Europe.

Though it may sound harmless, this implies significant reductions to the laws that protect our environment, air, waters, biodiversity, habitats, and climate. You can find more information in our petition “Hands off the EU’s environmental laws”.

The consultation, titled “Simplification of administrative burdens in environmental legislation,” is open until September 10. Participate today.

Sign in quickly using your email, eID, Facebook, or Google account – just confirm your email if needed – and submit your opinion directly to the EU.

Every comment will be published, and you decide if your name appears or remains anonymous.

You can also upload supporting documents up to 5 MB in formats like txt, doc, docx, pdf, odt, rtf, xls, or xlsx.

For instance, include photos of environmental damage or destroyed nature in your text or a pdf and upload them to strengthen your message.
